Why Use BLACK BEAUTY®
There is only one original BLACK BEAUTY® blasting abrasive.
Reed Minerals BLACK BEAUTY® blasting abrasives have been number one in the industry for over 70 years. Our high quality, chemically inert, low free silica and low dusting BLACK BEAUTY® abrasives are utilized in a wide range of applications including removal of surface coatings such as rust, paint, and scale, from a variety of substrates, especially structural steel and concrete. Imitation may be the sincerest form of flattery, but there is only one original BLACK BEAUTY® abrasive. Ask for it by name and accept no substitutes.
BLACK BEAUTY® blasting abrasives, roofing granules and aggregates are all "green" products. In many ways, Reed Minerals can be looked at as the original recycling company, taking coal by-product that would normally be left in waste piles and landfills and manufacturing it into a high performing "green" product. Reed continues to explore ways to provide value solutions to our customers while minimizing environmental issues and/or waste.

BLACK BEAUTY® blasting abrasives are a preferred alternative to silica sand. Silica sand can contain up to 99% free silica which has been found to cause silicosis, a sometimes fatal lung disease. BLACK BEAUTY® abrasives are low dusting, chemically inert, contain less than 0.1% free silica, and are not causally linked with any disease, including silicosis. If lead or dust are issues in your application, our abrasives are available pre-blended with Blastox® or Dustnet® to provide both lead abatement and dust control.

Our high performance, fast cutting BLACK BEAUTY® abrasives provide the best quality-value proposition in the industry, with superior cost per square foot of cleaning without a major initial investment in capital equipment. This can ultimately deliver higher returns and increased revenues for our customers. Similarly, Reed Minerals' BLACK BEAUTY® roofing products - shingle headlap, backsurfacing, mineral surfacing, and GRANDURA® colored granules - provide protection, performance, and longevity for our strategic partners within the roofing industry. Our roofing granules can be tailored to meet the needs of shingle manufacturers as well as specific shingle applications.
